Northern Ireland’s Climate Action Festival Returns for its Second Year

Do you want to join a fun filled day celebrating climate and environmental action?

For a SECOND Year, Northern Ireland’s Climate Craic Festival is returning to the cultural and picturesque city of Belfast as part of the Great Big Green Week. Creating its debut at Stormont in September 2021, its success left audiences feeling inspired, motivated and educated. This year it will take place in Ormeau Park.

Climate Craic is a fully voluntary CIC, which aims to create positive, cross community engagement with climate action. It was founded in 2021, as a response to the Active Citizens Programme which is sponsored by Co-Operation Ireland and the British Council. Both years running, the festival has been largely funded by The Climate Coalition, through their UK wide Great Big Green Week initiative. The GBGW runs from 24th September – 2nd October and is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

Thank you to The Climate Coalition and the GBGW for funding us and making this festival possible.

“There are so many people who care about the climate and environmental crisis but don’t know what to do or how to make a difference. We wanted to create an inclusive, celebratory space that is welcoming to everyone, from the caring and curious to life long environmentalists. The festival showcases the different ways people can and are taking action; whether that’s through sustainable living, campaigning, nature based solutions, changing laws – you name it. There’s something for everyone.”

Director and Founder of Climate Craic, Jacinta Hamley
NWP have joined the Climate Craic as headline Northern Irish sponsors.

This year’s festival will see Northern Ireland’s leading organics recycling firm, Natural World Products (NWP) join as headline NI sponsor.

“At NWP our focus is on making tangible, positive contributions to sustainable climate action and we are very pleased to come on board to sponsor the 2022 Climate Craic Festival.

“We work in collaboration with local authorities right across Northern Ireland, processing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of food and garden waste annually. This is then converted into high quality compost and soil conditioners which are used by councils, agri-growers and the horticultural sector – helping to create sustainable and effective methods of useful carbon capture and a more circular economy for all.

“Householders play an integral role in this process as without members of the public recycling their household waste we would not be able to carry out the work that we do.

“By sponsoring the Climate Craic Festival, we hope to help people learn more about the sustainable action they can take as individuals to help combat climate change.”

Sharon McMaster, Head of ESG and Community Outreach at NWP

Mark your calendar for Saturday 24th September 2022, and join the community of musicians, artists, poets, climate activists, business owners and individuals all involved in climate and environmental action in their own way. Held at Ormeau Park, the festival is sure to build on the success of last year. It runs from 12.30 – 18.30.

What Should You Expect?

Climate Craic wants to encourage everyone to join in the festival, whether you are a climate activist or interested in knowing more about the climate crisis and what people can and are doing right here in Northern Ireland to tackle it. As a result the festival tickets are FREE. Get your tickets here.

Climate Craic Festival connects people with the joys and possibilities of climate action and community. Combining community action with creativity is an extremely effective way to combat eco-anxiety and the overwhelm of global issues. Therefore, alongside stalls and workshops from the environmental and sustainability community, you can expect work from artists, poets and musicians.

To adapt the famous quote by Zero-Waste Chef, Anne-Marie Bonneau, ‘We don’t need a handful of people living a low impact life perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.’ The festival is an example of this in action. Regardless of your background, everyone is welcome.
