Volunteer

Climate Craic Festival is organised entirely by volunteers. Volunteers are at the heart of the festival, and we would be delighted to welcome you to the team!

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

How do I get involved?

  1. Firstly take a look at some of the different types of roles that are needed in the team. These range from stewarding to social media to festival logistics!
  2. If you’ve found something that you would like to help with – great! You just need to fill in our Volunteer Expression of Interest form, and someone will be in touch.
  3. You will be invited to join in with our weekly team meetings (online!) and meet the rest of the Climate Craic team and see what we’re all about.

Once everything is confirmed and you know a bit more about us, we will ask you to fill in a Volunteer Agreement Form, which will be stored in line with our Privacy Policy.

Roles for Volunteers at Climate Craic Festival 2024

Festival Stewards

On festival day, it’s all hands on deck! We enthusiastically encourage groups to volunteer for this event. Our goal is to build networks of people dedicated to continuing the climate change conversation. Whether discussing its impact on your community or exploring ways you and your organisation can help, this day is about advancing the dialogue, meeting like-minded individuals, and enjoying great music. If your group is enthusiastic and sociable, you will love this opportunity!

  • Stewards

This role will involve checking tickets at the door, ensuring social distancing at the different sections of the event and offering a warm and helpful presence to help guests enjoy the festival safely and comfortably. This may involve assisting people with accessibility issues or helping acts to set up and move equipment.

  • Waste Warriors

This role will involve manning our awesome zero waste stations, where there will be bins for compostable materials, recycling and general waste. We hope that most of the waste generated will be heading into that compostable bin, but this will rely on the help of our Waste Warriors, who will empty the bins periodically and generally keep things looking great.

*PLEASE NOTE: It is likely that most volunteers will be asked to perform both of these roles at some time during the festival – unless they have any particular objections – as both are vitally important to us keeping the event fun, safe and sustainable. There will be a rotation system, where you will be allocated to a certain role and place for a portion of your shift.

Social Media Team

Managing social media communications such as Facebook and Instagram. Types of posts can include:

  • Local issues and solutions
  • The political agenda (Private Members Climate Bill, Rights of Nature, Just Transition)
  • Festival process and promotion (e.g. entertainment and stalls announcements, updates etc)

Press & Media Team

We want to reach out to press and  amplify the festival and its purpose. This is another avenue to get climate action and awareness  on mainstream media, let’s make the most of it!

Also to raise the profile of the festival so that people outside of our channels and promotion methods hear of the festival.

Mobilisation Meeting Team

Climate Craic aims to bring together climate groups from all over Northern Ireland for a day of joyful climate activism. In order to make best use of this collaborative nature of the festival we would like to set up a recurring discussion space where representatives from different environmental groups can come together beyond the festival to plan how to best push for political action on the climate crisis.

Entertainment Team

We aim to have a range of entertainment in order to create a lively and dynamic festival atmosphere. This role will require contacting and managing the various types of performers involved in the festival. These include:

  • Musicians
  • Speakers
  • Other Performers (such as kids entertainers)

People with connections in the creative sphere would be ideal for this role!

Stalls Team

We want the festival to showcase a range of climate/enviro action possibilities. These forms of action will be demonstrated through the stalls – connecting people directly with activists and enviro businesses providing climate conscious solutions. The types of stalls we hope to showcase will include:

  • Environmental Groups
  • Educational Stalls
  • Craft Stalls
  • Food Sellers
  • Activities (including kids activities such as painting etc)
  • Other misc sellers

Logistics Team

Responsible for the setting up and running of the festival. All the practical aspects that need to be in place to ensure smooth running and legalities of the festival.

Promotions and Partnerships Team

We want to reach people both within and beyond our (& our partners) social media channels.

A well connected person with a diverse network would be great for this role, but is definitely not required. Digital design would be useful for creating promotional material.

Perks of volunteering with Climate Craic:

  • Contribute to collective climate action and mobilisation
  • Enjoy the festivities of the festival
  • Meet new people
  • Great for the CV
  • Stipend for lunch
